And the skies grew dark...
Adam and I are spending the weekend in Mitchell, Oregon for the Painted Hills Festival as I was an Emcee for the event. All the activity took place yesterday.Today he and I just cruised through the day on “Mitchell Time” a much slower pace of time :)
This evening around 6 or 7 he asked me if there was smoke outside and it sure was. I checked with one of the locals and the only fire she knew of was in Sisters, GW Fire, just two miles west of Black Butte Ranch. I hopped on the internet and saw that BB Ranch is on Level 2 evacuation notice… get your bags packed and ready to leave.
Let's put it this way, the fire was reported on the 31st at 7:30 AM and has moved very quickly to the east and there are strong west winds reported for this evening.
The sky was turning dark. From what I can tell it was a combination of the west/northwest wind and the evening inversion which causes the smoke to be pushed down to the surface. The sun was setting and was blood red. Peaks that are usually clear from Kiefer's deck were starting to become obscured by the smoke. It is hard to believe that this fire is only 82 miles to the west southwest of Mitchell and we are getting this much smoke.
It is a very eerie sight to see.

Resurrecting The Champ
So Last week I was driving between Vancouver and Kelso/Longview listening to OPB Radio (NPR). This is one benefit of being out of the office/cube farms :). Fresh Air from WHYY ran an interview with Samuel L. Jackson regarding his new movie Resurrecting the Champ. At the end of the interview I made a mental note, which I hoped lasted longer than making it to the next mile marker, to see the movie sometime in the future. After completing a wonderful day of riding on Saturday I ended up at St Johns Honda's open house and they were giving out passes to see the movie Monday night at 7 PM. Well I grabbed one and made arrangements for Lindsey to watch Bubba and Shelley and I made a date night.
The movie was great. It is based in Denver and one of the characters is a sports writer for the Denver Times. There was a point where the reporter was asking to cover the Nuggets/Blazers game instead of a fight because his son was a huge fan. His boss about fell out of his chair laughing. Now keep in mind that this isn't a comedy, but this scene received many a laugh.
Anyways, I'm getting a bit tired now.. so not much more to say other than you should go see the movie. The whole father/son underlying story line was great. Makes me think of Bubba and I, and how he looks up to me. :)
