w00t! posting from BlackBerry!

Sweet. I'm sitting in a house in Redmond, OR posting to my blog at the butt crack of dawn. I'm geek, hear me type.

Shel thought she heard howling. I told her it was a coyote. Actually it is a rooster. Been a while since I've heard that at dawn. Something about them not being allowed in Portland city limits.

Anyways. I have to get ready to drive to Sunriver. We three are helping with a half triathalon (forgive spelling. No spell check installed. :-P )

C ya later.

ATT Wireless Issues

Att Wireless, Oops I mean Cingular doesnt' know anything. It must be really hard for these companies that go and merge with others, or maybe it's just an AT&T effect. I had similar issues with AT&T Cable when Comcast merged with them. But this time it is different, I've been with AT&T wireless for over 10 years.

The issue began that I couldn't receive any text messages sent to the address cellphone#@mobile.att.net (my number removed for my protection). I know several changes with the attwireless domains took place this week. I now go to cingular.com instead of attwireless.com. I figured the text address would change also. I also assumed there would be notification if it did, like the main address. None sent, none received.

Using utilities I could tell that the mobile.att.net (owned by AT&T Internet Services) was refusing connections. I thought I'd call customer care. Two people and 45 minutes and them attempting to change settings on my phone didn't do squat. Sometimes I wish I didn't know so much about how email and the internet work. They kept wanting to change things that affect how my phone connects to the internet. NOT THE ISSUE. Ok they just work of scripts. I say I'll call back later. Maybe I'll get someone higher.

RJ couldn't believe how they weren't understanding me. He just shook his head. I should have played more dumb. But I didn't want them to screw my phone up. These are the reason I don't contact "Customer Care" all that often, I can get it figured out on my own with Google.

And that's how I finally did it. A Google search for: mobile.att.net not working. Funny how I found a posting on ATT.net (the internet company) stating a change taking place:

Cingular AT&T Wireless Address Change
(Post 4/27/05 3:40 PM ET)

On Sunday, April 24th, another step in the AT&T Wireless transition to Cingular was accomplished with the changing of email domains from "mobile.att.net" to "mmode.com"

We understand AT&T wireless users of the Worldnet Alert Service have been impacted and we are working to make the modifications to restore the service.

If you have applications or services that forward email to your Cingular AT&T Wireless service please change your settings now from @mobile.att.net to @mmode.com

The new address is 10-digit-wireless-number@mmode.com. For example: 1234567890@mmode.com.

Thank you for your patience.

Ah the joys of tech :-) Now back to the normal broadcasting day.

Good news? I didn't damage the laptop this time...

Bad news? There was a loud thunking noise coming from the clothes washer. I rolled up my sleeves and began a search and destroy mission. I had my knife and cell phone, but didn't even think about the item I found.

Just before starting the wash i shucked off my pants and tossed them in after clearing most pockets… except the watch pocket. The culprit of the noise was the work provided pager. I take it with me everywhere because, if you know me, if I set it down I'll forget it. Well, like I said, I didn't short the laptop out this time.

The great news is it is a “simple” electronic device and easy to disassemble. It has been pulled apart and dried out. I don't have any cans of air to blow the fluid out so I improvised. The good news is I should be able to stumble to bed in this “blow hard” induced state of mind. :-) I put it back together and it still works. Knowing me I'll totally forget to mention it to anyone at work and be accused of trying to hide the fact I washed the pager. Just for the record, I place this proof of stupidity for all to see. :-)

Night all.

Getting better. New color/layout.

I think I screwed up one of the templates I was using, I'm liking this a bit more. Will tweak it a bit more. Comments are working with the registration. You shouldn't have any trouble registering, it lightens the load of crap that I've been getting. Registration is completely free.

Did I do that?

Oops, me thinks something is hosed. I did an “update” for the commenting issue and now things are a bit scrambled to say the least. All of this is good news for those of you with bad eyesite. ;-) Looks like I have some work to do tomorrow after were done shooting. Arrrg, I just had to say, “I was bored.” didn't I?

Comments Limited...

Just letting everyone know I've limited comments for the time being. I've been slammed by spam on the comment log. Since I have to approve each comment, it floods my box. Just this morning I had to delete 38 spam comments, then delete them from my Blog comment area. Since between today and Dec 19 I've had to delete at LEAST 330 spam comments. I'll work on a solution when time allows, which is in very short supply right now. More to come on the time issue :-)

Want a DVD with a Big Mac?

McDonald's to offer DVD rentals in Denver

Which is better for the waistline of America? Buttered popcorn or a Big Mac, fries, and a large orange drink? DVD rental kiosks in McDonalds will be interesting to see. I'm not too sure how well this will do, but you have a pretty specific market, those that are to busy to make their own food. These are the same people that are too busy to stop by the video store or sign up for Netflix. I find the part that it is $1.00 a day and if the total charge reaches $25.00 the DVD is the property of the renter. That isn't as steep as some of the video stores. That's just my $1.00 worth ;-)

Where does the time go?

Ok, been a bit since I've updated anything! I've been busy around the house and mostly too exhausted from work to put much energy into this, but that is beginning to change. Thanks to my cousin Tim (2nd, 3rd, 5th removed? I can't remember) he has me up and running on a new album pics.pykonen.com. (links on the left already updated, others will soon) It isn't much right now, but I'm slowly moving things over from the old manually intensive layout. All of this is automatic, creation of the pages, image previews, etc. All I do is upload the images and add text. I'm also adjusting color as I can, most of the images are scans from a few years ago

Let me know if you have any questions and check back in the albums, I've got many more things to put up, but didn't due to the procedure to go through :-)

Time for bed now, see ya all laters. Eric

How does Apple spell co-worker?

One of the beautiful features of Mac OS X 10.2 and Safari 1.0 is the ability to check spelling as you type. This is helpful with large text fields such as those used in bLog programs. If you know me you know I can't spell to save my life.

I found it rather humorous that the spell checking suggested I had misspelled co-worker. Ok, what do you suggest in its place? Here are the suggestions:

coworkero-workerc-workerdo-workergo-worker
ho-workerlo-workerno-workerso-workerto-worker
yo-workerca-workercc-workercg-workerch-worker
cm-workercu-workercoo-workercob-workercod-worker

New Log added!

I decided to spin off my Honda Davidson entries into their own bLog:

“The Honda Davidson CM-400T”:http://www.pykonen.com/blog/honda
Rolled into main blog, too much to keep track of :-)

I will do my best to log each time I ride. It should allow me a chance to critique myself, etc.
